Hrishikesh Hirway and Jenny Owen Youngs

Since it was acquired and reopened in 2021 by Upstate Films, the historic Orpheum Theatre in Saugerties has been bringing a variety of intriguing events to its 144-year-old facility, adding to the draw of its packed calendar of films. On March 20 at 7pm, Chosen Family, the booking team behind Kingston’s much-missed music venue BSP, will present an evening of live music and storytelling by celebrated podcasters Hrishikesh Hirway and Jenny Owen Youngs.

Hirway is the host of “Song Exploder,” an award-winning podcast and Netflix series in which featured artists break down their songs to show how their songwriting processes work, and the cohost of the culinary-themed “Home Cooking.” Youngs cohosts “Buffering the Vampire Slayer,” which dissects the popular TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and the now defunct “Veronica Mars Investigations,” which did the same for “Veronica Mars.”

Long-time friends and musical collaborators, Hirway and Young will perform their original songs as a duo and discuss their music, careers, and more for this rare, intimate program. Tickets are $30. The event is for those who are 18+ (under 18 with a guardian is okay).

Peter Aaron is the arts editor for Chronogram.
