Happy
Pride Month! As part of the yearly month-long celebration of LGBTQ+ pride, the
Arts Society of Kingston (ASK) will present three free events on June 5.
The
trio of happenings kicks off on June 5 at 6:30pm with the opening of โBig Bold
Pride,โ a juried ASK exhibition that focuses on LGBTQIA+ artists and allies. Curated
by local artists and activists Lindsey Wolkowicz, Jacinta Bunnell, and Micah
Fornari, the show highlights queer identity, self-expression, and the continuing
movement for equality and human rights. On view will be works by Daniel Blake,
Jacinta Bunnell, Zena Gurbo, Edgar Hartley, Ron Hellman, June Jacobs, Marin
Kenny, Kate Larson & Sarah Ayton, Judith G. Levy, Daniel Ocean Lofgren,
Glenn Marla, Bryan McGrath, Stephen Olivier, Chelsea Ozeri, Lars Palombi, Emmet
Francis Phipps, Tom Picasso, Joseph Pine, Joe Thompson, Buddy Valentine, Ande
Whyland, and Saul Xtopher (Saul X).
Also
opening at ASK on June 5 at 6:30pm will be โLiving Queer,โ a debut solo exhibition
by Faith Bugman. This showing of oil, pastel, and mixed-media works by Bugman explores
identity, visibility, queer history, drag culture, and personal narrative
On
June 5 at 7:30pm, Rondout Pride, a spirited celebration of queer visibility,
solidarity, and love, commences with a joyous Pride Stroll that will start at
the ASK facility. The walk will continue down Broadway, cross the Wurts Street
Bridge, and finish in the historic Rondout waterfront, where shops,
restaurants, and galleries will be open late to offer pop-up specials,
refreshments, and displays in celebration of LGBTQIA+ culture and history.
