Overview:
The elite Afro-Cuban ensemble will perform on July 5.
Presented by eclectic Saugerties venue The Local, the summer music series at Opus 40 is in full swing, with enticing events on the calendar now through the close of the season. On July 5, the magnificent and historic sculpture park will welcome Afro-Cuban ensemble Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loca to its outdoor stage.
With his band Makina Loca (“Crazy Machine”), vocalist Lemvo creates an irresistible fusion of Congolese soukous; Cuban son, mambo, and salsa; and Angolan semba and kizomba. The bandleader was raised in Congo-Kinshasa, where he fell in love with Cuban music via a cousin who collected vintage Cuban records. After emigrating to the US, he formed Makina Loca in the Los Angeles area and the band swiftly became one of the most popular Afro-Cuban groups on the West Coast, appearing in the 1998 movie Dance with Me starring Vanessa Williams and Chayanne.
Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loca will perform at Opus 40 in Saugerties on July 5 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 day of show ($55 reserved seating; $20 youth 6 to 16; $160 carpool pass for up to five guests in one vehicle).
