One of my fave albums of 2015 is Laura Stevensonโs Cocksure, a sweet-and-spiky tin of wounded folk rock ballads and thrilling power pop anthems. This month, the Saugerties singer-songwriter revisits that recordโs softer side with the surprise release of a new two-track digital single, โThe Mystic and the Masterโ b/w โMaker of Things.โ
Recorded as a birthday tribute to her mother, the release has another purpose as well: All proceeds from its Bandcamp sales will go to Safe Horizon, a non-profit organization that supports and empowers victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking. โI grew up watching my mom go through so much,โ explains Laura. โI just wanted to share this as a way of showing her my appreciation for everything she endured while raising me and my sister.โ
Hereโs a YouTube stream of the former cut:
โThe Mystic and the Masterโ and โMaker of Thingsโ are available for download now.
