September 17. Although Vieux Farka Tourรฉ is the son of the Malian musical legend Ali Farka Tourรฉ, his dad, surprisingly, wanted him to become a solider instead of a musician. Thankfully, family friend and kora master Toumani Diabate helped convince Vieux’s late father to give his son’s musical aspirations a paternal blessing, and the two collaborated for the younger guitarist’s first album in 2007. Singer and performance artist Julia Easterlin hails from Augusta, Georgia, and began making her Bjรถrk-esque pop in Boston before going on to play at Lollapalooza (2011) and a TED conference, work with Cuban musicians, and climb the Himalayas. The pair, who here visit Club Helsinki, met during an impromptu 2014 studio session in New York and soon formed the creative alliance that led to the acclaimed Touristes.
