
Syracuse-area band the Vanderbuilts have been going since 2010, playing their alternately wistful and edgy indie folk rock at SXSW and sharing stages with Leon Russell, Titus Andronicus, Cults, Eytan and the Embassy, Red Wanting Blue, and other notable names. Earlier this month the group, which is led by Rhinebeck native Sam Kogan, released โI Wish I Was a Saber Toothed Tiger,โ a single (with accompanying video) from the groupโs upcoming album.

Still unnamed, the new album is set for release in early 2013. Kogan explains the record is โinfluenced by [filmmaker] Werner Herzogโs 2010 masterpiece, Cave of Forgotten Dreamsโ and โtoys with ancient themes/sounds/images.โ The disc is the Vanderbuiltsโ third self-released offering, after 2011โs Far From Here and 2012โs Miguelโs Orchard.
