Paula Pell and James Anderson in Hudson Valley Ballers.

“Hudson Valley Ballers” is a new web comedy series from longtime “SNL” writers Paula Pell and James Anderson. (The “ballers” in the title seems to be a shortening of “queerballers,” referring to the sexual orientation of the main characters in the show. I had to look that up.)

The premise of “Hudson Valley Ballers”: Two old friends move from the city to open a “Bed & Brunch” in the Hudson Valley. Think of it as “Portlandia” for East Coasters. A satire of local customsโ€”animal husbandry, yoga, encounter groupsโ€”but with the edge and bile New Yorkers expect. Paul Rudd also stars.

(Local color: In the opening credits, there’s a brief shot of the Rondout Creek from the railroad trestle bridge on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail in Rosendale.)

Brian is the editorial director for the Chronogram Media family of publications. He lives in Kingston with his partner Lee Anne and the rapscallion mutt Clancy.
