EMPACโ€™s programming is consistently interesting, and this Fridayโ€™s performance by New York-based piano/percussion quartet Yarn/Wire continues the thread.

Made up of percussionists Ian Antonio and Russell Greenberg and pianists Laura Barger and Ning Yu, the group has been praised by for its โ€œspellbinding virtuosityโ€ TimeOut NY and the New York Times for their โ€œmesmerizingโ€ performances, energy, and precision. With individual backgrounds in classical and rock music and avant-garde theater, the group โ€œis dedicated to expanding the repertoire written for its instrumentation, through commissions and collaborative initiatives that aim to build a new and lasting body of work.โ€ For the EMPAC concert, the quartet will present the world premiere of Enno Poppeโ€™s Feld and an earlier work cowritten by the German composer, Tonband.

Hereโ€™s a short video about a 2015 Yarn/Wire performance of Sufjan Stevensโ€™s soundtrack to the film Round-Up:
