While fall and winter can be beautiful, foul weather can sometimes make outdoor activities difficult. For the days when you crave beauty, weโve compiled a list of our favorite artsy towns and villages.
Hudson
This hip town is home to dozens of galleries on Warren Street alone. Choose from small, intimate photography exhibits or grandiose painting and sculpture exhibitions at the John Davis Gallery. A perfect afternoon can be spent wandering down Warren Street visiting galleries as you please.
Saugerties
This cute village just outside of Woodstock has a budding art scene. With vintage shops, antique galleries, for a small town there are plenty of shops to peruse. Check out one of the monthly Saugerties First Friday events where galleries host evening exhibitions and shops stay open later than usual.

Rhinebeck
Some of our favorite galleries in this posh village include Tulip, a florist shop and boutique that exhibits the work of local artists, and Albert Shahinian Fine Art, which displays oil works, pastels, and hand-pulled prints.
Woodstock
It’s no surprise that the village once home to the Byrdcliffe and Maverick art colonies โ and nearly the site of a massive musical festival in 1969 โ boasts a handful of eclectic galleries. Of particular note is the Center of Photography at Woodstock, which exhibits work by photographers of international renown and hosts workshops for up-and-comers.
Beacon
A quick train ride fro
m Manhattan, this city celebrates the arts at its monthly Second Saturdays. At each event, a different art exhibit is highlighted. Past Saturdays have promoted readings, musical performances, and visual art openings. RiverWind Gallery is the premier multifaceted spaceโhosting photography, painting, and craft exhibits.
