The Berkshires’ cultural institutions, food pantries, and youth programs may look like separate pieces of regional life. Behind many is a shared source of support: Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
Serving nearly 230,000 residents across Berkshire County, Columbia and northeast Dutchess counties, and northwest Litchfield County, the foundation connects people who want to give with organizations improving life here. Donors can establish charitable funds, contribute to existing ones or work with a philanthropic advisor to develop a long-term giving plan aligned with the places and causes they care about.
That generosity has reach. In 2025, BTCF awarded $18 million in grants and scholarships while managing 662 funds and $279.5 million in assets. Its work supported arts and cultural organizations, food access, housing stability, health care, education and youth development. More than $910,000 in scholarships went to 271 students, and education enrichment funds brought field trips, arts workshops, robotics programs and other opportunities to every public school district in its service area.
The foundation also responded to growing need as federal cuts placed pressure on nonprofits and the people they serve. In 2025, it launched immigrant-support funds across all four counties and helped provide emergency assistance for rent, utilities, transportation and medical bills.
“We’re definitely part of the shared project of strengthening communities throughout the region,” says Jenn Frederick of BTCF. For residents and newcomers alike, the foundation offers a way to understand communities beyond the scenery—and to take part in their future.

Casita has shifted its focus exclusively to evening service, inviting diners to settle in as the day winds down. The restaurant is open Thursday through Monday from 4 to 9pm, with the bar staying open later for those lingering over a final drink.
