The rumor mill has it that Blue Duck Brewing Co. (with its high-profile food partner Phoenicia Diner) is slated to open this Sunday, September 7. If it’s a launch, it’ll be a soft launch, with plenty more press expected ahead of the grand opening.
But we did get our hands on the final food menu, so that’s something to salivate over while we wait on them to tap the kegs and get the beer flowing. Phoenicia Diner classics that will be present at the Canteen include the reuben (both classic and veg) and the onion rings (made here with PD lager). The new fried chicken sandwich with white cheddar, ranch verde, and cucumber slaw on milk bread is sure to be a fast favorite ($16). Big-kid entrees include steak frites ($24), steelhead trout ($25), and a vegetarian chana masala ($18). Salads and a short kids menu round out the offerings.

And on weekends the brunch menu, which will be available until 3pm, will include Phoenicia Diner’s iconic pancakes in all their variationsโbuttermilk, buckwheat, and vegan ($15); as well as a bacon, egg and cheese ($12); a breakfast burrito with hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, cheddar, lettuce, sour cream, and salsa verde ($15).
As with the original diner, the Canteen will be sourcing most of its meat and produce from local purveyors, with a list of farms right on the menu. Stay tuned to Blue Duck’s instagram for news on the grand opening.
