Terrain & Table, an immersive outdoor dining experience with local, sustainable food and pastoral views, returns to the Hudson Valley on July 10 with their first dinner of the season at Winterton Farms. Monthly events held across the Catskills and Hudson Valley feature a different location each time, but the throughline is always enjoying food at the source at sites like farms, orchards, or vineyards. Chefs and menus are also in constant rotation, bringing a fresh lineup of dishes each month as the growing season progresses.

Terrain & Table is a division of The Farmhouse Project, founded by Shawn Lang and Kristopher Prepelica, whose journey with simpler and sustainable living began when they moved upstate into a historic farmhouse in the Catskills around 10 years ago. They began documenting their restoration of the house, and after gaining traction on social media, Lang and Prepelica expanded into posting recipes, design tips, and ideas for entertaining guests. โ€œItโ€™s evolved from there,โ€ says Lang, whose background in product design enabled him to create and launch the sustainable home goods collection that is the backbone of The Farmhouse Project. โ€œOur brand evolved around this simple livingโ€”learning how to live off the land and do things ourselves.โ€

The Farmhouse Project partners with local artisans and makers to highlight their work. โ€œWeโ€™re really passionate about where we live and our community, so we were thinking about how we could host events to bring everyone together and celebrate our community,โ€ says Lang. From that sentiment sprung the Terrain & Table dinners, which support local farms by both using their produce and publicizing their work. โ€œIt has to be a small business that we believe in; either a farm or a business that we feel could grow from this and get their name out there and have more exposure,โ€ he explains.

The upcoming Lavender Farm Dinner at Winterton Farms in Bloomingburg (now sold out) will be a feast for the senses, with dining tables set out amidst the intoxicating rows of fragrant purple blooms, a farm-fresh meal, and live music. On August 21, the moveable feast will take place beneath the apple trees at Stone Ridge Orchard, with guest chefs Cheryl Perry and Lizzy Singh-Brar. On September 18, head west to Buck Brook Farm in Roscoe, home to 100 Huacaya alpaca, whom youโ€™ll get to meet before sitting down for live music and dinner by chefs Amy Miller and Dayna Halprin. On October 2, head over to Saratoga Springs for the Old Tavern Farm Winery dinner, where you can meet the thoroughbred horses of the family racing business.

Terrain & Table dinners are hosted monthly and seasonally, from July to October in 2021. See the full list of events.
