Overview:
The Grammy-winning producer will discuss his new autobiography on October 18.
You may not know Robert Margouleff’s name, but he’s shaped much of the music you do know. In fact, Shaping Sounds is the title of the Grammy-winning producer’s new autobiography, which he’ll discuss in an intimate multi-media event at Applehead Recording Woodstock studios on October 18.
A trailblazer in the use and development of modern analogue synthesizers and an influential figure in electronic music, Margouleff has worked on landmark albums by new wave icons Devo as well as soul giant Stevie Wonder, famously playing on and coproducing the singer’s classic 1970s works Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, and Fulfillingness’ First Finale with his production partner Malcolm Cecil. With the late Saugerties resident Cecil, Margouleff developed the crucial early synth known as TONTO, which he and Cecil recorded with under the name TONTO’s Expanding Head Band.
“Shaping Sounds: An Evening with Robert Margouleff” will take place at Applehead Recording Woodstock studios in Saugerties on October 18 at 4pm. Moderated by Joe Shick and also including legendary audio designer John Storyk, the event is free with RSVP; admission is limited to 50 people.
