Amy Reed and Joyce San Pedro, co-owners of The Yoga House, with locations in Kingston and Highland, are expanding their yoga community across the Hudson to Dutchess County. As a BIPOC and LGBTQIA+-owned business, the studio is known for fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment at their two Ulster County locations. Reed and San Pedro, who took over the Yoga House in 2020, will soon bring their approach to yoga and wellness to Poughkeepsie.

Ground has recently been broken for their new studio, set to open in spring 2025 at South Road Crossing on Route 9. This studio will be part of a bustling shopping plaza housing other popular brands, like Sleep Number, Buff City Soap, and Smoothie King. The new 1,400-square-foot studio, designed by architect Jay Diesing and developed by Cameron Group, will feature an inviting entryway and thoughtfully designed studio space, including bathrooms with showers for yogis on the go. The Yoga Houseโ€™s holistic and accessible atmosphere will welcome all, from complete beginners to seasoned practitioners, offering a space for mindfulness, intentional practice, and a sense of community.

For Amy and Joyce, this Poughkeepsie location represents a homecoming. โ€œJoyce and I first met in Poughkeepsie, so itโ€™s serendipitous to return to our roots,โ€ says Amy. โ€œWeโ€™ve built such a strong community in Ulster County; people often tell us that coming to The Yoga House feels like coming home. Weโ€™re both ready to cultivate a similar โ€˜familyโ€™ in Dutchess County.โ€

The Poughkeepsie studio will offer a comprehensive schedule of yoga classes covering a range of styles, as well as strength-building disciplines like Pilates, Barre, and TRX (total resistance exercise). These offerings reflect the foundersโ€™ commitment to meeting the diverse needs of every student. With over 20 years of combined teaching experience, the co-owners bring an understanding of yogaโ€™s roots, blending mindfulness, biomechanics, and gratitude into each class.

โ€œWhen we say โ€˜yoga for every body,โ€™ we mean it,โ€ Joyce explains. โ€œOur classes are not one-size-fits-all because we believe in encouraging each individual to find the practice that best suits them. If you have a shoulder injury, weโ€™ll offer pose variations. If youโ€™re a beginner, weโ€™ll help you explore your own pace. We want people to explore their bodies, quiet their minds, and connect to themselves.
