Folk-Punker Jeffrey Lewis Visits BSP Lounge

An associate of indie darlings the Moldy Peaches, singer-songwriter Jeffrey Lewis, who plays Kingston on Friday, March 15, shares much of that duo’s bizarre anti-folk aesthetic. Raised by beatnik parents in New York, he makes lo-fi sounds that also reference the city’s irreverent folk-based artists of the past, such as the Fugs, the Godz, and David Peel and the Lower East Side. In 2008 Lewis released 12 Crass Songs, an all-acoustic tribute to the titular English anarcho-punk act. Also a highly acclaimed comic book artist, Lewis frequently accompanies his performances with projections of his amusing art—which he’ll hopefully do for this show at BSP Lounge. Here he is doing a bit about the French Revolution:
