Denizen Theatre

Denizen Theatre has certainly notched a major score for this holiday season: “The Daily Show” writer David Javerbaum’s hilariously irreverent comedy “An Act of God,” which opens on November 26 and runs through December 23.

Javerbaum won 13 Emmys with his work on “The Daily Show” and came up with the play not long after leaving the enormously popular Comedy Central program. “An Act of God” is an uproarious comedy in which God and his two archangels talk about how he came up with his 10 Commandments. The play was a major Broadway hit starring Jim Parsons then Sean Hayes and has been shown in 105 territories in 11 languages.

Here’s a bit of dialogue as performed by Parsons:

Denizen Theatre’s production stars Karl Kenzler, David Keohane, and Christa Rapaglia. Javerbaum wrote The Last Testament, a memoir by God, and then created a Twitter account to promote it (the account now has 6.2 million followers). Along with tickets to the show, the Denizen will be selling his latest book, The Boof Psalms: 97 Diatribes on Humanity’s Total Failure.

“An Act of God” will be at Denizen Theatre in New Paltz from November 26 through December 23 (Thursdays through Saturdays at 7pm; Sundays at 2pm). Tickets are $25-$28 (students $5).
