Big Blood

Within this space I haven’t checked in with Quinn’s in few months, so right now about the happening Beacon music venue/eatery now is ripe for some coverage. So let’s do it. Coming to Quinn’s stage on August 18 is quite an appealing double bill: Portland, Maine, neopsychedelic oddballs Big Blood and local experimental outfit Soundhauz.

Sometimes performing in expanded configurations, Big Blood congealed around married couple Caleb Mukerin and Colleen Kinsella (now sometimes augmented by their daughter), who’ve released two proper albums and a slew of lo-fi CD-Rs. One might say that their impossible-to-pin-down sound rambles between, oh I dunno, ’60s acid craziness a la early Pink Floyd or the Dead’s Aoxomoxoa, arcane English folk, Karlheinz Stockhausen, the Butthole Surfers, Western Mass freak-folkers Sunburned Hand of the Man, and San Francisco underground legends Caroliner. Or something. Based right down the street in Beacon, Soundhauz is also a duo: Edwin Torres (vocals, electronics) and Matt Harle (electronics).

Feed your head with “Everything is Improving” from Big Blood’s 2013 album Radio Valkyrie + 1905 + 1917 +:

Big Blood and Soundhauz will perform at Quinn’s in Beacon, New York, on August 18 at 8pm. A $10 donation is suggested. For more information, call (845) 202-7447 or visit https://www.facebook.com/QuinnsBeacon/.
