UK singer-songwriter Glenn Tillbrook, a founding member of new wave band Squeeze, will perform at City Winery Hudson Valley on September 15.

Tillbrook and his fellow guitarist and singer-songwriter Chris Difford formed Squeeze in 1974 with keyboardist Jools Holland and became part of the British punk/new wave movement that exploded in 1976. They made their recording debut with 1977โ€™s Packet of Three 7-inch EP and signed with A&M Records for their 1978 debut album, which was produced by the Velvet Undergroundโ€™s John Cale. The groupโ€™s breakthrough came with 1979โ€™s Cool for Cats, which featured the UK Top 10 hits โ€œCool for Catsโ€ and the Tillbrook-sung โ€œUp the Junction.โ€

Modest US success came with 1980โ€™s Argybargy, which included the singles โ€œAnother Nail in My Heartโ€ and โ€œPulling Mussels from the Shell.โ€ Holland, who left the band that year, was replaced by ex-Ace member Paul Carrack, who sang the Difford/Tillbrook-penned โ€œTempted,โ€ from 1981โ€™s East Side Story, Squeezeโ€™s biggest American hit. Squeeze broke up in 1982, but Difford and Tillbrook continued to work together and have reformed the band intermittently over the ensuing decades. Tillbrookโ€™s most recent solo release is 2014โ€™s Happy Ending.

Glenn Tillbrook will perform at City Winery Hudson Valley in Montgomery on September 15 at 8pm. Tickets are $45 and $55.
