Peter Aaron Jun 14, 2022 9:00 AM

The fourth installment of the “Experiments in Conversation” series of musician panel discussions, titled “The Guitar,” will take place on June 19 at Hudson House Distillery, bringing four distinguished local masters of the instrument to the historic waterfront destination distillery.

The panelist-guitarists for the event include Mark Dzuiba, chair of the SUNY New Paltz Jazz department as well as a performer; Dylan Doyle, a Hudson Valley-based touring blues rock musician; Rich Romano, a notable and talented area classical player; and Bill Harrison Kramer, a leading local luthier. The discussion will be moderated by series coordinator Ralph Erenzo.

guitaristFor the conversation, the four musicians, prompted by the moderator, will explore their unique perspectives on the popular instrument, whose modern roots stretch deep into 15th century Spain. The group will discuss the mindset of guitarists, the differences in their styles, and what drew them to their chosen playing methods, and there will be ample opportunities for the audience members to ask questions.

Conceived by Erenzo, the “Experiments in Conversation” series has previously examined such topics as “Time,” “Humor,” and “Craft vs. Art,” and its prior panelists have included university professors, professional comedians, an Olympic athlete, a watchmaker, a political cartoonist, and an evolutionary psychologist. In a beautiful setting overlooking the Hudson River, Hudson House Distillery is one of the region’s newest farm distilleries.

“Experiments in Conversation: The Guitar” will take place at Hudson House Distillery in Ulster Park on June 19 at 3pm. Tickets are $20, and seating is limited. See website for reservations and information.
