Actor, playwright, director, and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” creator John Cameron Mitchell will team up cabaret star Amber Martin and other guest stars at Mass MoCA on July 16 for an evening of stories and songs from throughout his career.
An Off-Broadway-cult-classic-turned-Broadway-smash, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is the story of a genderqueer East German singer stranded in Kansas after a botched sex-change operation. “Hedwig’s” house band, Tits of Clay, which is led by Justin Craig, will be present at Mass MoCA’s Hunter Center to back Mitchell on a host of “Hedhead”-pleasing glam rock hits from the musical. Tagged as one of the top performers of the year by The New Yorker, Martin is known for her combination of cabaret, belting vocals, and no-holds-barred comedy and here raucous live musical performances.
