Madeline Peyroux (Ice Boy Tell)

One of the greatest, most positive aspects of life in Ulster County—and the US itself—is the deep cultural diversity that its immigrant communities bring to the community. America is and always should be a melting pot; that’s what gives us our real strength and defining character as a nation. But, as we’re seeing all too well right now, especially with recent ICE raids in Midtown Kingston, that strength and character are under attack. The Ulster Immigrant Defense Network provides a network of safety and support to immigrants, regardless of status. And to help fund the organization, a special all-star “Friends and Neighbors” concert will take place at the Old Dutch Church on September 20.

Organized by singer Madeleine Peyroux, who is one of the featured artists, the event will bring together local musicians to play in support of the UIDN, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the cause. In addition to Peyroux, the performers include hit vocalist Joan Osbourne, David Bowie bassist Gail Ann Dorsey, jazz bassist Larry Grenadier, singer-songwriter Rebecca Martin, jazz guitarist Matt Munisteri, singer-songwriter David Baerwald, and Claire Manchon of pop band Claire and the Reasons.

“In these challenging times, it is crucial that we stand together in support of one another,” say the show’s organizers. “Your presence at this event will make a meaningful impact for those who need it most.”

The “Friends and Neighbors” concert will take place at the Old Dutch Church in Kingston on September 20 at 7pm. Tickets are $50. For more information about the Ulster Immigrant Defense Network, visit the organization’s website.
