Poem: White Elephants

After ten weeks of waiting,

you were able to take an ultrasound

that confirmed what we already knew.

You come from a lineage of twins.

It is snowing;

I hold your hand

as you sit on the metallic chair,

waiting for the two identical snowflakes

in your uterus to melt.
