Rex Fowler Celebrates Elvis Presley in Woodstock

Although the hard rockabilly of early Elvis Presley may seem to have little to do with the soft folk-rock sounds of 1970s band Aztec Two-Step. But when Elvis exploded around the world in the mid-1950s he inspired an entire generation of musicians who would make their marks in the decades that followed. And among them was ATS singer-guitarist Rex Fowler, who recenly produced a documentary about the King, 200 Cadillacs, which he’ll celebrate with “All About Elvis!,” a screening and performance at Colony on February 17.

Filled with rare footage, photos, and interviews, the 48-minute 200 Cadillacs features a soundtrack that includes songs written and/or performed by Fowler, Jon Pousette-Dart, Levon Helm with Mavis Staples, John Hiatt, Syd Straw, and others. Following the film, Fowler’s band Rex & the Rockabilly Kings will perform a set of soulful authentic renditions of Elvis classics from his Sun and early RCA Records days of 1954 into the early ’60s, exploring the groundbreaking blend of country, blues, and gospel.
