One of my fave albums of 2015 is Laura Stevensonโ€™s Cocksure, a sweet-and-spiky tin of wounded folk rock ballads and thrilling power pop anthems. This month, the Saugerties singer-songwriter revisits that recordโ€™s softer side with the surprise release of a new two-track digital single, โ€œThe Mystic and the Masterโ€ b/w โ€œMaker of Things.โ€

Recorded as a birthday tribute to her mother, the release has another purpose as well: All proceeds from its Bandcamp sales will go to Safe Horizon, a non-profit organization that supports and empowers victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking. โ€œI grew up watching my mom go through so much,โ€ explains Laura. โ€œI just wanted to share this as a way of showing her my appreciation for everything she endured while raising me and my sister.โ€

Hereโ€™s a YouTube stream of the former cut:

โ€œThe Mystic and the Masterโ€ and โ€œMaker of Thingsโ€ are available for download now.
