Summer is the season for beaches, swimming, and enjoying fresh fruit. The Hudson Valley has a robust growing season and many farms scattered throughout the region. Visitors and tourists alike can sample the local harvest of these farms and orchards. With a large variety of seasonal produce, the Hudson Valley can offer strawberries, cherries, raspberries, blueberries, and more this summer. Families are encouraged to pick their own fruit at farms across the state and enjoy the outdoors while the weather is warm and the berries are ripe. 

Chatham Berry Farms

2309 Route 203, Chatham

This family-owned farm was voted best in Columbia County for its farm store and garden center in the 2022 Best of Columbia County Reader’s Choice Contest. They will open their U-pick back up this June with blueberries. For updates, visit their social media

DuBois Farms

209 Perkinsville Road, Highland

Famous for their pick-your-own farm, Dubois Farms opens their U-Pick with the strawberry festival in Highland. The date is to be determined, as it depends on the crops, and will be updated on the website. The festival plans to feature live music and a petting zoo. Raspberry picking is scheduled for late July. 

Fishkill Farms

A farm that has been with the Morgenthau family for more than a century, Fishkill Farms sells hard cider made from their cultivated apples. Strawberries, raspberries, cherries, blackberries, and blueberries are available for picking this summer. Visitors must reserve their sports for picking their own berries. Plan your own trip here

Jenkins-Lueken Orchards

69 Yankee Folly Road, New Paltz

Located just minutes from the Town of New Paltz, this farm has been in the business for 50 years and is open year-round. Strawberry picking is offered in June, and blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries are provided as the weather starts to cool yet again.

Greig Farm

227 Pitcher Lane, Red Hook

With a market selling fresh fruit open everyday from 10am to 8pm, an outdoor cafe, and a family of goats to pet, Greig Farm is open to visitors of all ages. With strawberries ready to pick this June, and blueberries on the way come July, this Red Hook farm will be open all summer. 

Rose Hill Farm

19 Rose Hill, Red Hook

This farm has been in business since the 19th century and across six generations, making it a fixture of Red Hook. It started following the pick-your-own model two decades ago, allowing visitors to connect with the land. Cherry picking starts mid-June and blueberry picking is scheduled for early July.

Kelder’s Farm

5755 Route 209, Kerhonkson

Located in Kerhonkson, Kelder’s Farm began as a small family farm in the 18th century and has expanded in the years since. The Strawberry Festival starts on June 4 and lasts until June 21, featuring a six-acre strawberry field. Tickets can be purchased now

Locust Grove Fruit Farm & Brewing Co.

199 North Road, Milton

Locust Grove Fruit Farm began in 1820 in Milton and has been in the Kent family for seven generations. The farm grows apples, peaches, and cherries. The U-pick and Farm Stand is open every weekend from 10am to 5pm.

Fix Brothers Fruit Farm

215 White Birch Road, Hudson 

Fix Brothers Fruit Farm

Fix Bros. Fruit Farm is a family-owned farm in Hudson now in its fifth generation. The farm offers a variety of cherries—sweet, red sour, and black sour—this harvest season. 

Samscott Orchards

5 Sunset Avenue, Kinderhook

Located in Kinderhook, Samscott Orchards began in the early 1900s. Today, it sports more than a thousand acres. Strawberry picking opens on June 11. Sweet and sour cherries, black raspberries, and blueberries will be available during July and August.

Halfway Acres

200 Purgatory Road, Campbell Hall 

Starting as a few blueberry bushes 40 years ago, Halfway Acres now maintains 4,000 bushes in Campbell Hall. Its famous, specialized blueberries are grown with USDA certified organic standards. Blueberry season starts at the end of June and goes until the first week of August.

Mead Orchards

15 Scism Road, Tivoli

Beginning life in 1916 in Tivoli,  Mead Orchards initially specialized in selling apples to New York City. Today, the farm is known for selling a diverse range of produce locally. Due to the cold snap of spring, cherry and strawberry picking will not be offered this year. However, both can still be purchased at farmers’ markets and blueberry picking will open in late June.

Lawrence Farms Orchard

39 Colandrea Road, Newburgh

This family-owned, working fruits and vegetables farm located in Newburgh offers the largest pick-your-own selection in Orange County. Strawberries are ripe and ready for picking this June. Tickets can be booked here.

Ochs Orchard

4 Ochs Lane, Warwick

This Warwick farm began in 1920 as an apple orchard. It is now known for its petting zoo and the products sold at its farm market, including jams, jellies, and pies made from its berries. This year’s pick-your-own season gives us strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries for the summer. Cherries are unfortunately not available this year due to the early frost.

Saunderskill Farms

5100 Route 209, Accord

This farm received the Tricentennial Award from the US Department of Agriculture, an award given to family farms that have continuously operated for 300 years. Pick-your-own season starts with strawberries in June and blueberries in late July and early August. 

Prospect Hill Orchards

340 Milton Turnpike, Milton

The Clarke family established Prospect Hill Orchards in 1817. Strawberry season will be open on the weekends of June 13 and June 20 from. Plums, peaches, and nectarines will also be growing this summer. 

Dressel Farms

 271 Route 208, New Paltz

A family business that opened in 1957, Dressel Farms grows more than 300 acres of apple trees in New Paltz. It is also one of the largest strawberry producers in the area. Pick your own strawberries are offered in June, with raspberries and blueberries following later in July and August.

Steelbow Farm

750 Wiltsie Bridge Road, Ancram

Steelbow Farms

Moving from Maine to Texas and finally landing comfortably in New York, Steelbow Farm has become a staple of Ancram. The pick-your-own season will start with strawberries picked and tart blueberries in July.
