Newburgh comes alive on Saturday, May 10, with the fourth annual Spring Into Newburgh festival, an all-day celebration of art, wellness, local business, and community spirit. Organized by a coalition of local institutions and nonprofits, the event will bring together local artists and artisans, musicians, health professionals, and vendors to showcase the city’s thriving heartbeat. Expect vibrant streets, live music, great food, and plenty of opportunities to support local makers and entrepreneurs.

Safe Harbors’ Run/Walk for the Green 5K

The day kicks off with Safe Harbors’ annual 5K, a scenic run (or walk) through Newburgh’s historic district. Participants will weave through streets lined with stunning 19th-century architecture and catch breathtaking views of the Hudson River.

More than just a race, this event supports Safe Harbors Green, a public park at the corner of Liberty Street and Broadway that hosts events like outdoor movies, concerts, and the Newburgh Farmers’ Market. All proceeds from the race will go toward the park’s upkeep and free community programming. Adult registration is $35 in advance ($45 day-of), while participants under 18 can register for free. The race starts at 9am from the Safe Harbors Lobby at the Ritz, with an awards ceremony to follow at 10am.

Wellness Shines on the Green

Now in its fifth year, Wellness Shines on the Green is a hub for health and wellness resources in the Newburgh community. This free event offers health screenings, treatments, and fitness classes, as well as vendors selling wellness products, services, and nutritious eats. The festival aims to make healthcare accessible and approachable while fostering connections among local practitioners and residents. Classes and demonstrations will take place on the Safe Harbors Green stage throughout the day.

Art on the Block

Broadway transforms into an open-air gallery with Art on the Block, an urban art marketplace showcasing more than 35 artists from across the Hudson Valley. Expect a range of styles and mediums, from paintings to sculpture, with live demonstrations throughout the day. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Hudson River, the market will also feature food trucks and a live soundtrack of cinematic tunes. The event runs from 10am to 5pm in front of Newburgh Mercantile (75 Broadway), with a rain date set for May 11.

Newburgh Farmers’ Market

Spring Into Newburgh also coincides with the beloved Newburgh Farmers’ Market, where local farmers and artisans sell fresh produce, baked goods, handmade crafts, and more. Hosted at Safe Harbors Green from 10am to 3pm, the market offers a perfect way to sample the region’s best flavors and support small businesses.

Let’s Bike Hudson Valley: Ride for Fun and Fitness

Cycling enthusiasts can join Let’s Bike Hudson Valley for a free bike tune-up at 10am at Safe Harbors Green, followed by a community ride at 1pm. Exploring the city on two wheels is not only a great workout but also an excellent way to appreciate Newburgh’s parks, streets, and historic architecture. This is just one of many community rides Let’s Bike Hudson Valley has planned in the area for National Bike Month and National Mental Health Awareness Month.

Shop, Dine, and Stroll Downtown

Throughout the day, visitors are encouraged to explore Downtown Newburgh’s thriving independent businesses. From cozy cafes and artisan shops to bustling bars and bookstores, the city’s small businesses will be open and welcoming shoppers.
