Mostly Modern Festival Kicks Off in Saratoga Springs
The American Modern Ensemble
Although the Saratoga region is slightly beyond Chronogram’s “official” field of coverage, it’s nice to highlight one of the many worthy events that happen in that culturally rich area. One such event is the Mostly Modern Festival, a brand-new new music concert series that runs June 8-17 in Saratoga Springs.

Sponsored by parent organization the Mostly Modern Institute, the festival, which is being directed by MMI faculty member Rob Paterson, will take place at Skidmore College. Performing new works at the festival’s eight concerts are Paterson’s own American Modern Ensemble, the Euclid Quartet, the American Modern Orchestra, Imani Winds, the Atlantic Brass Quartet, and Albany Pro Musica.

“Increasingly, for young people, new music is the gateway to old music,” Paterson maintains. “If not a tipping point, is this maybe a time, and an opportunity, to see how this is being played out, in a brand-new festival devoted to this notion?”

Here’s some footage and sounds of Paterson leading the American Modern Ensemble in concert:

The Mostly Modern Festival will take place June 8-17 at Skidmore College’s Arthur Zankel Music Center in Saratoga Springs, New York. Tickets for each concert are $20 ($10 students). For more information, call (212) 217-0119 or visit https://mostlymodernfestival.org/.
