Steve Forbert

Now this sounds like a solid bet
for a night of great music in a cozy venue. Steve Forbert and his trio will
make their way to the Towne Crier on November 24 in support of the
Daylight
Savings Time
, the singer-songwriterโ€™s 21st(!) album.

The Mississippi-born tunesmith
lit out for New York in 1976. It was the peak of the punk explosion, and he
began gigging at CBGB, where his honest, stripped-down take on folk rock fit right
in with the minimalist approach of club habitues like the Ramones, whose managers,
Danny Fields and Linda Stein, signed him up.

โ€œTelevision used to cover โ€˜Knocking
on Heavenโ€™s Doorโ€™ by Bob Dylan, and so it wasnโ€™t all that clear cut, everything
going on there wasnโ€™t sounding like the Dead Boys or the Damned,โ€ Forbert told Please
Kill Me
in 2018. โ€œItโ€™s not as odd as it looks on the surface for me to be
able to sing in there.โ€

Forbert’s 1978 debut, Alive on Arrival, had the music
press pegging him as โ€œthe new Dylan,โ€ but he hit the big time with its followup,
1979โ€™s Jackrabbit Slim, home to his signature song number-one single of
that year, โ€œRomeoโ€™s Tune.โ€

The Steve Forbert Trio
will play at the Towne Crier in Beacon on November 24 at 7pm. Tickets are $40. Reservations
are recommended.
