A still from “Against the Wind”

In March of this year, a group of filmmakers spent a day on the frozen Hudson River documenting the centuries-old sport of ice boating. The film follows a handful of practitioners of the almost forgotten sport as they take advantage of one of the coldest winters in decades, taking to the ice in the graceful vintage boats to skate across the frozen river at speeds in excess of 30 mph.

Against the Wind, by Christopher Nostrand, Tomasz Gubernat,Teodora Altomare, Rahul Chadha, and Daniella Flores, premieres at the Woodstock Film Festival, part of the Hudson Valley Docs short films showcase, on Friday, October 17 at noon at the Woodstock Playhouse and again on Saturday, October 18 at 2:15 at Upstate films in Rhinebeck.
