Industrial Arts Brewing, awarded “Best Brewery in the Northeast” by VinePair in 2018, is bringing its “fresh, happy beer” up the river from Garnerville to Beacon, where they will open a second brewery, taproom, and event space on Fishkill Avenue this spring.
“I’m really excited,” says general manager Sofia Barbaresco. “I’ve been going up there on weekends to soak up the feel of the community, and I hope to incorporate Beacon’s spirit into our new facility because it feels like a really good fit.”
Barbaresco studied brewing in Brazil and returned stateside in 2013, just in time to ride the incoming tsunami of craft beer. “When I first got back, there were hardly any job opportunities,” she says. “It’s exploded! It’s fun being part of it.”
The company’s current site is in the Garner Arts & Industrial Center, a meandering pre-Civil War factory compound in Rockland County. “It’s all crazy old brick buildings and winding alleyways,” says Barbaresco. “We share space with the Garner Art Center, and we’ll be putting on a big festival together May 18-19 that should be amazing.”
Immediate plans for the Beacon facility include a tasting room with ample outdoor seating and panoramic mountain views, a New York State-focused beverage program, beer to-go, and food truck partners for the opening festivities. As autumn approaches, they’ll be opening the indoor tasting room. Expect lots of music and film programming Barbaresco says, and rotating food choices that pair well with beer. There will be a “huge” event space, with large banks of windows on both sides, “one overlooking the brewery floor, the other looking out at Mount Beacon,” says Barbaresco. “So you’ll have these expansive views on both sides.”
Industrial Arts will be anchor tenant and co-owner at a repurposed 147,500-square-foot warehouse built in 1982 (formerly the home of Mechtronics marketing agency). “It’s exciting how much of a blank slate it is,” Barbaresco says. “The possibilities! It’s got good high ceilings and a sturdy foundation, and we’re building out our brewery to optimize all of our high-tech processes. We’re building the brewery of our dreams, and the latest tech and equipment from Germany is an exciting part of it.” Production at the new facility is slated to come online in 2020. In the meantime, you’ll be able to drink their beers brewed at the Garnerville location.

The original Garnerville location, opened in August 2016, is also in expansion mode, adding jobs, high-tech brewing and packaging equipment, additional tanks, and building out the current taproom to accommodate more guests. The brewery currently distributes beer to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Japan. The state-of-the-art production facility in Beacon will be capable of producing in excess of 50,000 barrels annually, over five times as much as the 9,000 barrels brewed in Garnerville last year.
