The Feelies
  • The Feelies

Almost four decades after they formed, New Jersey-based band the Feelies continue to kick out their highly influential brand of avant-punk pop. And they’ll be doing it once again at Club Helsinki in Hudson on May 17.

Founded by singer-guitarist Glenn Mercer and guitarist Bill Million in 1976, the Feelies were a staple act at CBGB and other early New York punk spots and released their debut album, Crazy Rhythms, on Stiff Records in 1980. Besides drawing resounding critical acclaim, the disc’s skittering sound greatly inspired subsequent artists like Sonic Youth, Pavement, and R.E.M., whose Peter Buck produced the group’s 1986 LP, The Good Earth (Twin/Tone Records). The Feelies’ fifth album, Here Before (Bar/None Records), was released in 2011 and shows they haven’t missed a beat.

Here, the band kicks out “Away” earlier this month:

The Feelies will perform at Club Helsinki in Hudson on May 17 at 9pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $22 at the door. Call (518) 828-4800 or visit Helsinkihudson.com for more information.
