While we are not exactly seaside, the Hudson Valley’s quaint towns and cities do boast a selection of beloved and reputable fish markets. Here are the top places to buy fish in the Hudson Valley.

Gadaleto’s is a beloved New Paltz staple with both a fresh fish market and “no-frills seafood shack,” which dishes up casual, delicious favorites like crispy calamari, fried oysters, chowder, po boys, chicken sandwiches, and fry baskets. For years, the Gadaleto family has led the region, focusing on sourcing wild-caught and sustainably farmed seafood. They will always have a range of options with most, if not all fish being fresh and never frozen.
Sally's Fish Market

Sally's Fish Market has been a mainstay of Newburgh for over 80 years, starting in the 1920s with Sal pedaling fish from an ice truck all the way through its current iconic location with the mural outside. Sal and the crew head to the Fulton Fish Market at Hunt’s point several times a week to hand-select whole fish, which they bring back to the market to fillet onsite. In addition to shellfish, Sally’s regularly carries a range of fish from branzini and sole to tuna and red snapper. Head’s up: Sally’s is closed Sunday-Monday.
Olde Hudson

Olde Hudson is a boutique cafe and provisions market specializing in charcuterie, cheese, seafood, and imported specialties like olives and figs, pasta, preserves, and sardines. Fish is shipped fresh directly from the docks in Boston and Gloucester on Tuesdays and Fridays and never frozen. The selection is seasonal.
Chatham Berry Farm

This family-operated fruit and produce farm may seem like an unlikely spot to pick up your weekly supply of fish and seafood, but the Chatham Berry Farm has (saavily) rounded out its farm store selection to include local, pastured meat and eggs, seafood, imported specialty goods, and snacks and treats from local purveyors. The fresh-cut seafood selection changes daily, so call ahead to place an order or check availability. With plants and artisan goods, it’s easier to walk out of here with more than you planned on buying.
Four Maples Fish
1820 Route 376, Poughkeepsie
With an extremely knowledgeable staff that might advise you on anything from handling to recipes, Four Maples offers both wholesale and retail seafood in a clean professional environment. They have an enormous selection of fresh and frozen fish and seafood, but their speciality are Rhode Island little necks, which you can purchase by the dozen or all the up to a bushel.
Slammin’ Salmon

Slammin Salmon is a go-to for Millbrook locals with prepared foods that make lunch (or entertaining) a cinch, and a fresh fish market. The crew heads down to the Fulton Fish Market almost daily to keep their counters stocked with fresh wild caught and organic farmed seafood. They always have both wild and farmed salmon, as well as raw and cooked shrimp, scallops, tuna, swordfish. The selection varies based on the market and the season, but with 24 hours notice they can pick up a special request at their next run.
Adam's Fairacre Farms

Ok, you know what we said about supermarkets not being romantic? Well, Adam’s may well be the exception. Family-owned and operated for almost 40 years, Adams brings all those specialists we mentioned under one charming roof with a bakery, a butcher and deli, a coffee roaster, a cheesemonger, and their wildly popular seafood counter open seven days a week. Monday through Saturday, the seafood counter is restocked with daily deliveries from the Fulton Fish Market, the Boston Fish Pier, Portland’s Fish Exchange, New Bedford Landing, and others. Adams also fillets many of the fish in-house contributing to their freshness. There is a range of wild-caught and farmed fish, some is fresh, some previously frozen, all are clearly labeled.
