We hope you’re craving confection because there are some busy bakers in the Hudson Valley this month. With a huge cupcake festival this weekend and another just down the road, your sweet tooth is about to be beyond satisfied. Here are two events made for indulging in seriously delicious cupcakes.
Saturday, May 4, 12-5pm | Stormville Airport
Cupcakes will flow down the tarmac at Stormville Airport this weekend with the return of the K104.7 Cupcake Festival. The popular radio station estimates that over 20,000 cupcakes will be sold by dozens of local Hudson Valley bakeries during this free event. That’s a lot of cupcakes! But only one perfect pastry will be crowned “Best Cupcake in the Hudson Valley” in the festival’s annual Cupcake Wars. Anyone can enter the competition on the K104.7 website and be qualified to win by bringing a dozen cupcakes for judging and following the official rules on the entry form. The winner gets $1,000 and bakers’ bragging rights! Cupcake Wars begins at 3:30pm.
The 2013 Cupcake Wars winner, Forget Me Not Cupcakes, will return to the festival with innovative flavors like Strawberry Margarita, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Lemon Raspberry. You can also pick up Lovin from the Oven’s chocolate stout and “make-your-own” cupcakes, Whipped Cupcakes’ deep-fried cupcake, and The Cakery Fishkill’s Nutella Explosion cupcake. And that’s just the tip of the icing.
Admission and parking is free. Rain date: Sunday, May 5.
Saturday, May 18, 12 to 5pm | Gardiner
Later in the month, Gardiner will be hosting its renowned cupcake extravaganza. Festivities kick off with the 5K Cupcake Classic Run at 11am (register here), so you can ditch some calories in preparation for the cupcake festival that follows at Wright’s Farm in Gardiner. There will be food vendors, craft vendors, live music, and, of course, cupcakes. Bakers include Cake Heights, Kupcake Kouture, and Mid-Hudson Cakes. Plus, kids can enjoy activities like cupcake decorating, a petting zoo, wagon rides through the apple orchard, and bouncy houses.
Admission is $5 and kids 6 and under are free. For more information, visit the Gardiner Cupcake Festival website.
