We Left the Barn Door Open
On November 17, the Environmental Cooperative at the Vassar Barns hosted our latest Chronogram Conversations event. More than 120 people came to talk about "The Future of Poughkeepsie" and enjoy food and drink from our event sponsors. On hand at the Barn were Hudson Valley Brewery, pouring a number of fall selections; Earth, Wind & Fuego Cafe, a relative newcomer to the Poughkeepsie dining scene (the gluten-free establishment is located in the Underwear Factory); Angry Orchard, who brought a pair of ciders from their Walden-based location; and Poughkeepsie's own BC Kitchen, which shared some appetizer samples from its popular menu.

Scenic Hudson's Jay Burgess and Peter Bernard shared their efforts surrounding their Fall Kill Creek watershed restoration and revitalization effort. Riverkeeper joined the festivities and Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison as well.
Editorial Director Brian K. Mahoney moderated a panel of community leaders, including Sarah Salem (development associate at Dutchess Outreach and newly elected Ward 2 City Council Member), Paul Calogerakis (founding Chair of the Poughkeepsie Alliance and Chair of the Poughkeepsie IDA), Mario Johnson (director of admissions at Ridley-Lowell Business & Technical Institute and formerly of Nubian Directions), Steve Rosenberg (senior vice president at Scenic Hudson) and Nicole Fenichel-Hewitt (executive director of Spark Media Project and Mill Street Loft). The panel sat on custom tractor stools made for Chronogram by our talented sponsor, Amy Lewis-Sweetman of Agrisculpture.
