The tasting room at Madava Farms

The start of spring will beckon us into the garden. Maybe it’s the Easter baskets, reminiscent of European markets, that make a local farm even more appealing. There’s something about the smell of dirt as new buds push through, and the sight of animals romping outside again after the winter hibernation that seems to confirm it’s spring. And what better way to get outside and notice the changes in the landscape than by scavenging at a local farm?

Swing by Madava Farms in Dutchess County’s Dover Plains for a maple-infused Easter brunch on Sunday, March 27th. Situated on 800 acres of pristine, sustainably managed land in Dutchess County, the century-old sugar and red maples have ideal terroir and seasonal weather conditions to produce a superior sap for maple sugaring. That Crown Maple syrup is baked into scones and sticky buns. It glazes ham and candies bacon. It’s in the vinaigrette and, of course, it’s poured over pancakes. Brunch seating is at 12pm with an Easter Egg Hunt to follow for kids 12 and under. Madava Farms offers beautiful vistas from which to enjoy breathtaking views spreading across the Hudson and Harlem Valleys. So you can take it all in and maybe find some signs of spring along with the hidden Easter egg treats. $50 per adult/$30 per child (12 and under). Purchase tickets online.

Want more? Check out the many town-sponsored egg hunts in your local community using Family Friendly Hudson Valley’s handy round-up. Many of them are happening on Saturday, March 26th. Learn more about the infamous Easter animal at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center's Hippity Hoppity Bunnies, where you’ll take a walk in search of signs of wild rabbits, meet a live one, and make a Bunny craft to take home. $8 per adult, $6 per child. Buy tickets and register here.
