A King Crimson reunion? Whoah. But which King Crimson are we talking about? The prog-pioneering 1970s incarnation circa In the Court of the Crimson King and Larks’ Tongues in Aspic or the 1980s “new wave” edition of Discipline and Beat? Well, neither, actually. Perhaps something more intriguing instead. And fans will be able to witness this new era when the venerated band kicks off its upcoming tour at the Egg with shows on September 9 and 10.

The reactivated King Crimson features founder and guitarist Robert Fripp, bassist (and Ulster County resident!) Tony Levin, saxophonist/flutist Mel Collins, guitarist Jakko Jaksyzk, and, get this, not one but three drummers: mainstay Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), and Bill Rieflin (R.E.M., Swans). A seven-piece band!

The tour that breaks out of the Egg this month marks the American debut of this version of the band. Treat your ears to this teaser from a recent rehearsal:

King Crimson will perform at the Egg in Albany on September 9 and 10 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $36.75 and $43.75. For more information, call (518) 473-1845 or visit http://www.theegg.org/.
