Josh Radnor got his first taste of acting outside of his home state of Ohio at Powerhouse Theater. At 19, Radnor starred in the Powerhouse apprentice production of "Macbeth" and spent the summer on the Vassar campus in Poughkeepsie learning the ropes from theater pros like Peter Frechette and Jane Kaczmarek.
The star of "How I Met Your Mother" returns 20 years later for this summer's Powerhouse production of Richard Greenberg's "The Babylon Line." The play is set 1967 Levittown, where an adult education creative writing instructor from Greenwich Village (Radnor) learns there’s more to his pupils than picket fences and penny socials.
I spoke to Radnor about his nine-year tenure as Ted Mosby, transcendental meditation, his sentimental links to Powerhouse, and his return to Broadway this fall.
