Punk Photo Exhibit Hits Poughkeepsie

Paul Zone was the front man of the Fast, one of the most active bands of the earliest days of New York punk. But in addition to tearing it up on stage, Zone was also a photographer who, starting at age 14, began visually documenting the scene that would send ripples throughout the world and indelibly reshape modern popular culture. Zone’s eye-popping 1970s images have been compiled for Playground: Growing Up in the New York Underground, a lavish hardcover book published by Glitterati Press. In celebration of Playground’s publication, Kymara Decadent Designs will present “Growing Up in the New York Underground: From Glam to Punk,” a solo exhibition of Zone’s photographs at Darkside Records and Gallery that opens next week.

Featuring over 30 of Zone’s striking images, the show includes rare shots of the Ramones, the New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Iggy and the Stooges, Blondie, the Dead Boys, Suicide, Kiss, Richard Hell, Wayne County, and many others.
