Cool news: Poughkeepsie’s always-stellar Jazz in the Valley festival turns 15 this month. More than that, this year’s installment, which will take place on August 16 and fill two stages, may just have the best lineup yet.

Headlining is the legendary bassist Ron Carter, best known for his tenure in the classic Miles Davis Quintet of the 1960s and his performances on countless recordings. Also appearing are the exquisite pianist Bill Charlap his trio, saxophonists Javon Jackson and Tia Fuller, pianist Arturo O’Farrill’s octet, and percussionist Steve Kroon. Bravo to Transart, the local organization that curates the bill.

The fifteenth annual Jazz in the Valley festival will take place on August 16 beginning at 11am at Warayas Park in Poughkeepsie, New York. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 day of the show (special student price $20 day of show). For more information, call (845) 384-6350 or visit http://www.jazzinthevalleyny.org/.
